After a summer spent in shorts, flowy dresses and light fabrics, the allure of trousers, wool skirts and structured bottoms is hard to resist once fall comes around.
Balance is everything (in life and fashion). It’s like the fashion gods knew that when they gave us options between skinny-can-barely-breathe-jeans and elegant culotte flare pants. The freedom of choice when it comes to pairing is bestowed on you, oh fashionista.
Just remember how proportions look, if it’s big on top, big on bottom, you’re going to look…big. Typically, we prefer to opt for tight tops and wide bottoms, or wide tops and skinny bottoms so your body doesn’t drown in clothing.
Always keep the silhouette in mind when pairing.
Skirts are so much fun. They’re inherently feminine, and depending how you style them, they can also be sexy, classy, sporty or edgy.
One of our favorites this season is the midi-length pleated skirt (here and here as well) It can be worn with a t-shirt and sneakers, or elevated with a leather jacket and black booties. Its also long enough to cover your legs during the colder months!
Perhaps, the most versatile skirt I have on rotation this season is this navy wool pencil skirt. Work or play, it does its job – and well! Because of the tighter fit, it can be paired with loose fitting sweaters and longer jackets. Again, pop on your sneakers, and a bomber and you’re set for anything the day throws at you.
For many, denim is the go-to bottom during colder seasons. It’s easy, comfortable and versatile, buttttttt, it’s not the only option out there. It’s easy to fall into the habit of reaching for your go-to denim every morning, but with a few additions to your bottoms capsule you can really elevate your look, and add versatility. With the high price tag on most premium denim brands, it’s critical that you choose wisely. We’re all for spending the money on a pair of jeans if it means they’ll fit you like a glove for season after season.
Business casual, airing on the business side is very in-style for FW16/17. Several of our go-to stores are stocking straight-legged dress pants that add a little extra class to your average shirt and sweater combo. Pants, versus denim, are an excellent option for you working-gals out there who need to keep it a little more professional within the office walls then slink out to a night on the town for comradic activities. Besides, when you show up to cocktails in a pair of pleated crops and cute pointed-toe booties, you’ll notice a definite escalation in dress code for your next girls night.
The bottoms you can find in our capsule wardrobe are:
